our identity. our dreams. our purpose.

identity + dreams = purpose

identity |īˈdentitē the fact of being who or what a person or thing is
dream |drēm• a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal
purpose |ˈpərpəs• the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists

Dreams becoming reality are what my heart lunges at and as you become accustom to my blog, you will see the thread that weaves itself through, dreams. I used to wonder why they even existed. What is the point of having these great ideas only for them to be stagnant and cause us to eventually hate anything else we do. Then, the good Dad took me on a journey...

She always knew God because she was raised running through the church from start until the after hours. Her childhood memories are sitting in Sunday School learning Bible stories via felt board and running outside the church building looking for small frogs and new "secret hideouts." As the years progressed she became hungry for God and who He was. At the age of 15, she felt the call of God on her life.

Skipping through years of turmoil and deep ditches, she found herself broken with what she was called to be and who she even was. She met a Godsend group of people through her time of being restored into a new person and they showed her this new side of God.

You see, God is a creator. She found her identity in Him when she began to recognize her identity of being His daughter. As His daughter, she is like Him and created like him. So then being like Him means that she too was able to create. Because with the help of her Father she was unstoppable.

So she started on a journey of discovering this attribute of her Father. How He thought; How He cried; How He created. But most importantly, she found this warm, relentlessly pursuing heart. His heart was for her and what she wanted. She was His daughter after all, and what loving parents heart is not for there child and all they dream to do?

So why was that exactly? Why did her Father want what she wanted for this world?

Allow me to take you back to the greatest [true] story ever written and told.

At the very beginning of time, Adam ruined us being one with God because he wanted to taste some bad fruit sold to him by the evil one [satan]. Most of us know the story.

[If not, Adam's story (not all of it, just the fall of mankind)]

God [my Father] sent His Son [my Elder Brother] to this world so that we could be one with Him again. My Elder Brother [Jesus] died a brutal death so that He could tear the veil that kept us from our Father. But do not fret, He rose again after three days. [He just needed some time to drop kick satan in the face and take back what the enemy stole from His brothers and sisters].

So after making a super long, extravagant story short [you can find the full version through the whole New Testament in the Bible], we now have the duty of carrying through what our Elder Brother did. What did He do? I will tell you.

He drove the darkness out of lives that kept us from God so that the Glory of our Father may dwell inside of us. But that is not where the story ends...

Now, as she began to learn the importance of what her Elder Brother did, she began to also realize not only her identity, which was a Daughter of God, but her purpose. He purpose was not her calling. I believe that while those two things are similar and have the same thread through them, they are not the same.

She discovered that her purpose was to drive the darkness out of this world so that the amazing people of this world could encounter the love of God. That was her purpose. Now how on earth that was to be done is the exciting part. That is the part my heart lunges at every time I talk to a person about their purpose.

DREAMS!!!!

You may be wondering, what do they have to do with anything she just said?? They are extremely important my friend!! They are what makes our journey with our purpose fun and invigorating!! You see, after we accept what Jesus did for us by dying on the cross, then we can take back what Adam was manipulated into giving satan, our heritage.

We are then children of God, He is now our DNA.  Before Him, we still had dreams and desires of what to do with our life.  Our dreams.  Whether its to be a wealthy businessman, to make music, design clothes, be a mom, whatever it is, we all have them. Dreams.

They are a part of us and they must not die. Because beloved, they are meant to come true.  God would never create something in us that He did not intend on bringing out of us.

May I propose to you my equation again?  Thank you.

identity + dreams = purpose

When you learn who your Father is and His heart for you, you begin to discover that He placed these dreams inside of you so that you can fulfill your purpose with excellence.

My dream[s]? Well, I am a wife to my fearless husband and my dream is to push him towards his dreams and create a safe atmosphere for him to do so. I also have a dream of creating little world changers with my husband. I have a dream to make my life hospitable through my other dreams of writing a book[s] and singing my heart out.

While doing all of that I am living out my purpose of driving darkness out of this world. Through my identity and dreams, I am living my purpose.

Now quiet the noise around you that screams, "you can't." And listen to the comforting whisper saying, "it's what I created you for my child."

relentlessly pursue every season

season |ˈsēzən| an indefinite or unspecified period of time.

Those of us who live in Ohio/Pennsylvania are experiencing a season change.   As I sit at my desk at the library, I can overhear my co-workers talking about how fast the summer went and where on earth did time go?  I too am wondering where the warm season went.

A little more than a month ago, my pastor spoke about what we need to do to become closer to Holy Spirit.
1. slow down!!
2. talk with Holy Spirit
3. pray for extended period of times with Holy Spirit in your prayer language

One of those really struck me to the core to the point of tears.  I do not know how to slow down.  Slowing down is so foreign to me.  I had completely forgotten what rest meant, but most importantly, resting in Jesus.  So, I decided this needed to be fixed.  But how do you pull yourself out of habit and into a completely differently lifestyle and state of being??

That Wednesday, I was on my way to Denny's for a long awaited meeting with a dear friend when I had received a text from her saying she would see me at 8:30am, a half hour later than I thought we were supposed to meet.

It was already half way into the week and I had yet to even attempt to slow down.  It was on the forefront of my mind, but I felt like I was so incapable of it.  Upon hearing I was early, my first thought was, "I have a half hour to get things done and out of the way for the day."

Then I heard Holy Spirit whispering to me.  He said, "Slow down, my friend.  Breathe."  So I heeded to His whisper and headed to Denny's early and was able to read a little bit and gaze at the changing seasons through the window.

As I was pondering on the subtle changes in the leaves, I began to recognize the beauty of slowing down and cherishing where you are.  Not only that, but recognizing God's goodness in the season you are in.

There is such a divinity in the changing of seasons.  And if you do not recognize where you are and where you are heading, the seasons of life will change without you and you will be left in the winter from ages ago.  Also, if you are distracted by the season that is yet to come, then you completely miss the beauty of where you are.

One of the things that I find most fascinating about the Lord is that as you listen to His whispers and focus on where you are, He prepares you for the season to come.

Should you prepare for certain things in the future?  Absolutely!!
Should you keep your goals in mind and work towards it?  Never stop that!

But we must always keep the present in mind.

psalm 118:23 (nkjv) this is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Through learning how to slow down, which I am still trying to achieve, the Lord brought me to this verse.

Most people see this verse as "if you are having a bad day and need some enlightenment" sort of thing.  But I saw it in a different light.

I saw it as needing to rejoice in the day the Lord made presently.  I needed to stop and look around at where He has blessed me and has revealed His beauty to me and rejoice in that.

I encourage you, men and women, to pursue each day that the Lord has made for you!!  I encourage you to relentlessly pursue each season the Lord places before you.

do not let it pass you by!!

Dreams Become Reality

Take a deep breathe.  Close your eyes.  Breathe.

It has been more than a year since I last wrote here.
I moved home from California, started dating my best friend, started back at the coffee shop, got a second job working at a library.  My best friend decided that he loved me so much he wanted to marry me.  Three months later brings us to now and I have been married to my best friend/man of my dreams for two and a half weeks.

One of my biggest dreams unfolded before me and happened all within a year.  I became a wife.  The last post I wrote was about that dream.  I can imagine writing it all down in my journal...

I was sitting at a locally owned coffee shop located on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks, California.  Night had fallen and I was sitting outside.  The night life was starting to awaken as the cool breeze was making it hard to keep my pages in place to write down my hearts desires.  As I finished, my friend had arrived and it was time to go home.  I laid in my bed that night thinking about when this time in my life would possibly come.  It felt so far off.  However, I knew in my heart that I was never to stop pursuing my dream. Which I thought was quite comical at the time.  How on earth am I supposed to pursue my biggest hearts desire when its being a wife?  What does that even mean?

When you stop and think about it though, when you have a dream, you cannot just pursue it when your there.

dream |drēm| (n) a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal.

A dream, clearly stated above, is something you must work towards.  It is not going to fall into your lap or scream at you it pursue it.  It must be pursued.  "What does that look like?" is question you are not alone in asking.  And quite honestly, I do not have a play by play answer for you.  But what I do know is that you DO NOT wait around for it and do absolutely nothing.  With my dream, it was hard because I believe that the woman should be pursued by the man.  So I had to be creative and ask Holy Spirit what me pursuing this dream for being a wife looked like.

For the longest time, I thought, "I cannot be a wife until a man makes me one.  Therefore I am stuck waiting."  Can I please tell you how wrong it is to think that way?  It is.  It is really poor thinking.  It is wrong because the only person that can make you dream happen is you.

With the help of Holy Spirit, I recognized that I needed to learn how to be a wife before I actually was one.  So I read books on what it means to be a wife.  I went deep into scripture on what the Bible said about being a wife.  After my researching, (in which I am still learning), I carried myself as if I was someones wife.  The way I presented myself was with respect and I honored the men with purity.  I fully believe in my heart that what I was doing, was pursuing my dream to be a wife because I became what I wanted to be before I was "there".

Become whatever is it you want to be before you are "there".

Here is a little tough love. :]

stop being so lazy and procrastinating.

Your dream will not come alive if you sit in one spot and hope for you to "one day" have this epiphany of what you need to do to get there tomorrow.  Dreams becoming reality take a lot of hard work and focus.  Lazy people stay who they are and top off at average, possibly.

I want to encourage you with the dreams in your heart.

pursue them.

Let's do something with the crazy dreams we have and turn them into purpose and allow them to come alive.
